Regal was established to provide Veterans’ support services in 1966 by Patricia R Shepherd, a Registered Nurse. Anna M Shepherd, Patricia’s daughter, has continued Patricia’s legacy by being a leading advocate for Veterans and continuing the tradition of quality Veterans care. The Shepherd family has a long association with the Defence forces with multiple family members serving in the First and Second World Wars. Regal continues to be the largest provider of Community Nursing Services for Veterans in Sydney and honours the tradition of those that served.
Eligibility is dependent on the type of Repatriation Card (Gold or White) card you have and whether you live at home or in an independent living facility. Veterans that live in Commonwealth funded Aged Care facilities are not eligible for assistance. Regal can assist you to assess what entitlements you may have to engage our Veterans home services.
There is no cost to Veterans, War widows or widowers who are eligible under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Community Nursing Programme.
All you have to do is contact your local doctor and discuss a referral for Community Nursing assistance. Mention you would like Regal to provide your Veterans home health care services and they will then pass your referral on to our Care Services team.
We can also receive a referral from your local medical officer (LMO) or other General Practitioner (GP); treating doctor in a hospital, hospital discharge planner, Nurse Practitioner specialising in a Community Nursing field; or a Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) Assessment Agency. Regal can take care of the rest.
If you are a health professional who wants to refer to Regal, please call our Care Services team om 02 9264 4555.
