Home Care Package funds are designed to support you with in home care, services and equipment to help you live independently at home. You cannot use your Home Care Package funds for things that should be paid for from general income.

For example

  • To pay rent or mortgages.
  • Food and groceries (unless part of the enteral feeding program)
  • Home maintenance that isn’t related to your care needs.
  • Travel , accomodation or holidays.
  • Clothing and footwear.
  • Medications and services that are already covered by the Medicare Benefits Schedule and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

Can I buy a equipment like a hospital bed or a recliner with my Home Care Package funds?

Yes you can purchase equipment and aids with your funding, as long as the equipment purchased directly links to the goals and needs you have identified with your Care Coordinator.

Can I pay for my house to be painted with my Home Care Package funds?

No, unless there is a direct risk to your health and wellbeing you cannot use your funds for home improvements.
